The Battle Of Balendup Creek 1925

A small collection of mourners gathered, during the early hours of Tuesday morning, in silent vigil to remember the largely unknown skirmish that took place near a small creek bed in the Belandup local park.
The creek (Unnamed) is a quaint rivulet, leading to a duck pond, and has historically made the short walk to Belandup shops three to four minutes longer for elderly walkers not able to step over the flat half meter traverse.
Local CWA busybody Gladyss Myryll had said of the event that.

Most of the town knows, or is at least aware, of the battle, due to the small brass plaque my Errol installed on the public gazebo’s wooden balustrade in 1970

Gladyss then went on to describe the local bakery’s lemon tarts as “Poor” compared to the last owner who sold the business “in 1991 or maybe 92, I’m not quite sure (sic)
The battle itself took place over a short afternoon, during which resident Nona McGuinness was attacked by three aggressive ducks while walking home with a recently purchased loaf of bread. The crazed ducks were said to have furiously nipped at the unexpecting octogenarian as she passed.
The Bread, believed to be sliced wholemeal, was lost in the fracas.
Startled and with a slightly bruised ankle Nona was later rescued by a passing police officer who made loud shooing noises at the ducks, causing them to waddle back into the pond.
He was later awarded an official pat on the back by mayor of the time Roland Apsley.
It may be said that memory of this inane event in Australia’s history will long be remembered in this small town

Funding for a bridge over the creek is currently being sought, please hashtag #JusticeforBelandup in support.
